Grow Out Cellar / bergmeisterwolf architekten

June 10, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

The project is located in the Isarco river valley, near the 12th-century novacella abbey. Here the monks started producing wine from the nearby fields, and many farms followed their example and opened their own wine business. Pacherhof was not just the first, but some documents show that their wine cellar was working even before the construction of the monastery. This is why pacherhof is now considered as an asset of high architectural and cultural value.

This Toronto residence concept centered around ideas of revival and renewal. Initially faced with a late 1880’s Victorian heritage listed facade a completely new idea of the interior that worked to utilize the spatial logic and existing window openings implied by the original architecture acted as the starting point. The resulting scheme restored the heritage façade and presented a completely new and contemporary interior architecture.

The river Sava is an important natural element of the city of Slavonski Brod and there is a big tradition of kayaking and canoeing, so the local government decided to support this by building the new KAYAK CLUB located next to the City’s Stadium, near the embankment along the Sava River. The theme of the context determined by the structure of the existing and the future stadium complex, the vicinity of the Sava River, a certain symbolism of the purpose of the project and the structure of the program is contained within the design concept.

June 6, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

The Point Lonsdale House is a linear-formed beach-house composed of four interlinked pavilions, each defined by its own vaulted roof form and which holds within it the separate functions of the home. The house is shaped to fit the East-West orientation of its site and is aligned to the southern boundary to allow the living spaces to engage with the long northern garden. Each of the pavilion forms is divided to the south by a series of private courtyard gardens and sheltered decks, which provides the house with a complex relationship to a number of external living spaces.

Located in Amagansett, New York, on an expansive and secluded site, the Wuehrer house is surrounded by nature preserves. The house is accessed by a private gravel path and is nestled in a clearing within Stony Hill Forest. The site is gently sloped, covered almost exclusively with white oaks, a few eastern red cedars, and occasional pitch pine. To celebrate this serene location, the design of the house mutes architectural metaphors, avoids overt symbolism, and conceives of a contemplative structure that is simple, discreet, rational, and generously open to the surrounding landscape.

This vacation home in the interior of São Paulo was built for a family with two adult children. The project is divided into two main volumes, displaced from one another. The ground floor contains the entire social area, while the upper volume accommodates the more sheltered suites. The social area is fully integrated with the exterior, opening to the view of the golf course just ahead. In opposition, the side of the house facing the street is more closed, which guarantees privacy.

Springhill House / Lovell Burton Architects

June 6, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

The site was purchased by an author seeking a tree change having lived in inner city Melbourne for many years. The dwelling is part of a larger project to re-imagine and revitalize the underworked paddock into a place of habitation, connection, and reflection. The site slopes in the north-south direction and have been sculptured into subtly undulations from surface water that seeps through the ground from the adjacent Springhill. The dwelling is sited towards the high point of the site adjacent an outcrop of granite that forms an imperceptible rise to the north of the building site, offering both a foreground for aspect from the dwelling and obscuring view and noise from the road.

Northampton International Academy / Architecture Initiative

June 5, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

London-based architecture practice Architecture Initiative has completed a project to turn the largely windowless, utilitarian, industrial building into an education hub filled with natural light and expansive views; designed to motivate and inspire. The 1970s building stood derelict for eleven years and had become a local eyesore, attracting antisocial behavior. Architecture Initiative identified the opportunity to ambitiously reimagine the vast brutalist structure as a school while celebrating the best of its exposed concrete structure and features such as its massive open spaces and waffle slab ceilings. Northampton International Academy accommodates 420 primary pupils 1500 secondary pupils and a 300-place sixth form. The main mass of the building structure remains largely unchanged.

The design has transformed the shell of a double fronted mews building into a contemporary and timeless workplace for a small but growing boutique office. With sustainability driving the client’s business, the building represents this ongoing commitment. A zero carbon sustainable strategy was adopted for the 210sqm building by replacing the gas supply with 100% renewable electricity bought from a sustainable source.
