Six Columns House / 31/44 Architects

June 6, 2024 Paula Pintos 0

31/44 Architects’ highly bespoke home for its architect owner and family sits on what was a large side garden in Crystal Palace, southeast London. From a distance, the brick structure sits comfortably alongside its neighbors, but as you approach and enter, a personality rich in architectural character is revealed – the synthesis of eclectic fragments of architecture: borrowed details of the house next door, abstract references to places visited, shared family trips, buildings appreciated and memories of houses inhabited over the years. The house twists and steps to make the most of its sloping trapezoidal site. Internally, the result is a series of intimate spaces over three floors, with multiple views between, across and through, that create a sense of spaciousness despite the modest size of the rooms.

Tengbom’s Stockholm Office / Tengbom

June 5, 2024 Paula Pintos 0

Tengbom´s new office is located in Hagastaden, a vibrant neighborhood close to Stockholms city center in an old former Factory from 1934. From the entrance, the visitor encounters a welcoming and dynamic ”Arena” with an exhibition space, inviting touchdown workstations, sofa groups, a ping pong table, a long group table, an open kitchen, and a library. Instead of a traditional reception, we have a mobile host who welcomes and guides our guests. The Arena also works well for larger events and is big enough for the whole office to congregate with two drop-down projector screens enabling presentations. A large skylight sits above the long group table. The sides of the deep recess are clad in polished stainless steel with a soft rippled structure that spreads daylight throughout the space.

The Timber House is a parking garage that intends to show how a simple typology as parking can become a work of art. Thus, it is designed to add value beyond its functional purpose and elevate the urban environment around it, offering a visual and engaging architectural addition to the area.

Roof With 20 Concrete Ribs / Atelier Zafari

In a backyard in Berlin Neukölln, we removed the roof from an old five-story factory building and created a new 250-square-meter unit with a roof terrace. The existing building consists of a side wing and an almost square transverse building. This T-shaped floor plan structure creates two backyards. It is accessed through the existing staircase in the second courtyard in the side wing and through an external elevator on the transverse building. The second existing staircase in the first courtyard only serves as the second escape route but is also conceivable as an access route.

The façade is wooden and organized into modules, which gives the building a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

ki’imak k óol taale’ex waye (I’m glad you’re here). The house welcomes visitors with graffiti painted on the metal advertisement on a party wall when the entire plot was used as a garage. The concrete slab where only cars could live had to be lifted to become a new space for humans, plants, and fauna.

Pizzeria 22k / destilat

June 1, 2024 Paula Pintos 0

Sebastian Rossbach and Marco Barth have opened their pizzeria 22k in the venerable halls of Peter Behrens’ tobacco factory, built in 1925-39 as Austria’s first steel skeleton building in the New Objectivity style. The two award-winning chefs (Rossbarth restaurant, also designed by destilat) are opening a casual culinary playground in the “Falk building” of the radically functionalist industrial building and the interior design should be just as cool.
