This project is the renovation of a restaurant in a small town of La Mancha, Spain. The recent acquisition by the owner of an attached store allows for an extension to host storage and direct access for goods to the street. The dining area is then expanded taking the space of the old storage, maintaining its structure and roof, and natural light is let in through a double height space that maintains some of the original elements, such as fireplace and staircase. In City Bell, a town in the suburbs of La Plata (Argentina), the need for expansion on a single-family home gave origin to this idea. As an answer to this issue, the existing conditions and the new requirements (a new bedroom), the decision was to continue the development of the “private” part of the house taking as a starting point the repetition and traslation of a structural element and the morphology of the preexistence.

Originally inhabited by a single family, the house appeared too big and difficult to take care of after the children grew up and left. The owner of the house then decided to sell the last two floors to a friend, in order for him to convert them into his own appartement. The architectural project consists in renovating and turning the existing single family terraced houseinto a building of two separate flats. Architects Edouard Brunet and François Martens teamed up in order to complete this relatively small yet ambitious project.

Triptych House / Paul Cashin Architects

Triptych House is a Grade II Listed dwelling in Winchester, Hampshire. The property is one of a row of terraced dwellings that are annexed to a large 18th Century manor house. The property has a modest and unassuming appearance from the roadside. Prior to the renovation and extension, much of the interior of the property felt like a typical home. At the rear, there was a single-story conservatory-style extension housing the dining and kitchen spaces. This acted as an intermediary space between the main house and another two-story building in the garden, which was once an old billiards room.
