Seaside Villa / CEBRA

Danish architecture studio CEBRA has completed a seaside villa in Denmark wrapped in an undulating roof, offering expansive views over the Aarhus Bay while also sheltering itself from the weather. Responding to the specific site conditions and the client’s wish for an artistic expression, the residence is designed as an inhabitable sculpture that takes on a different shape depending on your point of view and the capricious coastal weather.

Mountain Retreat / Rowland+Broughton Architecture

Drift Bridge / Volkan Alkanoglu

Drift, a timber-and-steel pedestrian bridge by designer Volkan Alkanoglu, has been completed and will be installed in Fort Worth, TX in Summer 2021. Fabricated off-site with a projected installation time of just a few hours, Drift is an innovative example of plug-and-play urbanism, an emerging sustainable and affordable design strategy that proposes building infrastructural elements off-site and dropping them into place.

Rottmannsboden Duplex / Kohlerstraumann

Situated in a moderately busy street of a calm neighborhood in Binningen – Switzerland, an exquisite semi-detached house is well integrated into a pleasant environment of single and multi-family houses. The project aimed to integrate two distinct users of double housing into one building. As a result, the form of the building reflects the unique design of two different users accommodated in a single house structure that fulfills the needs of both the users. The house forms a part of a diverse hub of public amenities with schools, commercial shopping facilities, and public transportation located in closer proximity for the users to access conveniently.

Located in the Botanical Garden of the University of Freiburg, the livMatS Pavilion offers a viable, resource-efficient alternative to conventional construction methods and therefore represents an important step towards sustainability in architecture. It constitutes the first building ever with a load-bearing structure that is entirely made of robotically wound flax fibre, a material that is fully naturally renewable, biodegradable, and regionally available in Central Europe.

Hotel Bohinj Revitalised / OFIS Architects

Hotel Bohinj, the former Hotel Kompas was built spontaneously over the last three decades, without thinking about its final appearance. It is raised on a plateau, which gives it a special intimacy, with views of Lake Bohinj, the mountains and the church of Janez Krstnik. The new owners of the hotel decided for radical overhaul including structural reinforcement, interior refurbishment and sustainable renovation.

Like many Gulf cities, Doha’s recent meteoric growth has resulted in a dramatic expansion of its urban footprint fueled by the automobile. This progressive project aims to change this direction of travel by creating a dense, walkable neighbourhood knit together by naturally cooled streets built at a human scale. Set in the heart of the city, there are more than 100 buildings, each distinct yet all expressing a shared architectural language rooted in the local culture and climate.
