Jakub Szczęsny and Hadas Tuval redefine the rooftop as a public space, where city dwellers get a chance to form a community and weave new connections under a temporary canopy. Together, they created a shaded shelter on the Liebling Haus rooftop. This lightly covered space – a hybrid of a sail and a tent – invites visitors to explore the thin line separating belonging and connection from seclusion and disconnection.

Northpointe engaged Ghafari to transform the former Cascade Commons, aging, nearly vacant 91,000 SF building into an innovative national operations hub for their residential lending and servicing groups.

The idea of the house goes beyond its physical form and is built from the inside out on the principle of spatial connection with the environment from which it grows and which it overlooks. The concept is based on the relationship between the house and the city, the house and the garden, and the garden and the city. The relationship scheme is repeated inside the house. The interior communal part flowing through the entire house continues to the exterior and all the separate private parts have their own extroverted relationships.

The project takes place in Vilnius city, in formerly abandoned buildings that are now in use for The cultural complex established by the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Art Union, operating on the principles of community and self-government. The particular space is designated for the “Architecture Foundation” which works in the field of architectural and cultural education. The room is used as an office workplace, a meeting place, and a gallery.

Sports Hall King’s Cross / Bennetts Associates

The King’s Cross Sports Hall is an all-timber building, designed with multiple lives in mind. It will first serve as a Construction Skills Centre providing local people with access to the job opportunities created by the wider King’s Cross development in central London. As a health and fitness centre, it will provide a two-storey gym and an indoor sports hall designed to meet Sport England standards, which can be used either as four badminton courts, a basketball court, and a volleyball court or a five-a-side football pitch.
