I Do Artist Store with Yue Minjun / AntiStatics Architecture

November 24, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

Immersive experience: primitive romantic space VS. bustling urban environment. The I Do artist store in Wuhan, China blends uniquely spatial and sculptural elements to create a highly expressive, embracing, and inspiring experience. The featured work of the collaboration between AntiStatics Architecture and renowned artist Yue Min Jun is specifically “the peaceful elephant,” symbolic within Chinese and Asian culture as a representation of “a peaceful world and mature grain in society.” Within the space, a smooth and fluid cave-like space is carved out of the interiors wrapping the visitors in a continuously fluid environment and drawing people through the floor plan. The detailing of the displays embedded within the walls and freestanding throughout the space suggest massive geologic formations emerging from the erosive spatial constructs of the interior. As a whole, the geometries present a diverse yet synergistic unity of form.

Yihuang 1st High School Complex / Leeko Studio

November 23, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

Since the well-known Dom-Ino prototype was proposed by Le Corbusier in 1914, it has been widely applicable to modern architectures mostly characterized by the interaction between horizontal floor slabs and vertical column grids. Even in the original open floor plan modular prototype, Le Corbusier left room for the interactive possibilities between the horizontal structure and vertical structure in construction details. While the vertical columns are required to be poured on-site, the horizontal floor slabs can be broken down into building blocks, which can be prefabricated in the factory and assembled on the construction site. This minimal, easy-to-build, and cost-effective space model not only makes it possible for mass production of space driven by the capital in the industry of architecture in the 20th century but also provides architects with a foundational frame for space design, paving the way for them to explore the infinite possibilities of space between grids and planes under appropriately confined conditions. Yihuang 1st High School Complex, a project recently completed by Leeko Studio, is designed based on Le Corbusier’s Dom-Ino prototype. Architect Leeko created an interlaced complex on campus with floor slabs overlapped on the 4500 square meters space. The complex responded to both the surroundings of the city and the campus with grid shifting and pivoting on the horizontal level, and it also fulfilled the different space spans requirements through overlapping and transferred structures at the vertical level. Ultimately, a competitive interaction between horizontal slabs and vertical column grids is formed to create an open and multi-functional complex on the campus.

Guomangyuan 20# Ferry Hall Reconstruction and Lougne Suit Custom Store / FANAF

November 22, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

The project is located on the east side of the 20 # building of the national leader in Nanjing Qinhuai District, which was originally a machine processing workshop of the second machine tool factory, built in the 1980s. The overall structure of the 20 # floor is divided into two parts: the east side is the three-layer brick-concrete structure, and the west side is a single-layer arrangement structure of reinforced concrete. Originally the east side hall is an entry into the entire workshop, a huge iron gate still remains. In 2012, the finch building was transformed into office features, and the east side hall became the entrance space of the property office. Reconstruction requires a transformation of the hall to commercial, as a space for the Lounge Suit Clothing store. The operation mode is a reservation system, and the overall atmosphere requires low-key and a sense of ceremony.

The Chuan Malt Whisky Distillery / Neri&Hu Design and Research Office

November 19, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

For over a thousand years Mount Emei has persisted as one of the most deeply spiritual places in China and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The revered ground upon which our site sits has a rich history itself – through the centuries, this land was once an impressive monastery, the site of several historic battles, and a stopping point along many pilgrimage and trade routes. While any built remnants of the past no longer remain on site, its very emptiness is powerfully suggestive of all of its fabled memories. Three years ago, Neri&Hu won the design competition and took up the challenge of designing a distillery and home for Pernod Ricard’s first whisky in China, an opportunity to create a timeless architecture that speaks to the core values of a visionary new brand as well as the material and cultural heritage it aspires to sustain.

The Local Food Factory / Studio Dali Architects

November 18, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

The essence of the countryside is production, and in the planning of the whole village, we attach great importance to the layout of the production space. In 2019, an entrepreneur from Chengdu planned to relocate her factory from the city to Xiaoshi Village, a place with beautiful mountains, to promote the concept of green food. The idea of a “shared factory” was then devised to provide the village and town food craftsmen with the equipment to make their products and the quality control standards and channels to bring them to the market, modernizing the craft and solving the problems of labor and traditional craft heritage.

Gymnasium of South University of Science and Technology / URBANUS

November 15, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

Relying on the hills behind, the Gymnasium of South University of Science and Technology stretches horizontally. The huge roof slides down along the rock mountain, hangs in the air, and stretches out a large eave to the west, providing a shady space under the local hot climate condition. Looking from the outdoor playground, the roof asymmetrically stretches down, emphasizing the dynamic exterior of the roof. The large steps are part of the gymnasium base, which leads to the playground and is supported by the V-shaped concrete structure. Since there aren’t risers between treads, the space under the steps can also receive lights, which means the space can be used as an informal sports space. Through these stands, the gymnasium and the outdoor playground are integrated as a whole.

No. 5 Service Station of the Ecological Corridor around Erhai Lake / 3andwich Design / He Wei Studio

November 13, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

Background and site: cluster design and a low-lying land without seeing Erhai Lake. The construction of the ecological corridor around Erhai Lake is an important measure for the regional governance of the west of Erhai Lake. The elimination of illegal buildings within 150 meters along the blue line of Erhai Lake has formed an ecological corridor in the west of the sea, alleviated the relationship between man and nature, and also provided an opportunity for tourists to approach and enjoy Erhai Lake. In order to better serve the people of the ecological corridor, the local government invited 10 well-known domestic architects to design the cluster of 20 service stations along the ecological corridor. 3andwich Design/He Wei Studio is responsible for the design of No. 5 and No. 6 service stations.

The beauty centers, barbershops, restaurants, gyms, supermarkets that the most common places we need most but never notice. We often think about how these spaces related to everyone can be designed and reconstructed. If cultural centers, libraries, and theaters are defined as the “spiritual halls” of modern people. Why can’t those places that only meet the basic needs of ordinary people become “the churches in the market”? The process by which our body is beautified is also a process of purifying our spirit. Our identity with society will be activated and redefined through the space of the beauty salon, and we will also redefine ourselves.
