The brief for Residence G was to create a countryside lifestyle in harmony with its surroundings. The starting point was the Comte de M. 19th century farm building, constructed in a U-shape around a courtyard, nestled in a fantastic natural setting surrounded by the edge of a forest, a haven of biodiversity. It is located alongside a golf course running through the forest.
On the border between Switzerland and France, Lugrin extends over a succession of terraces dominated by the first foothills of the Alps. Located opposite Lausanne, the town offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of Lake Geneva. Situated in the very heart of the village, behind the church and the town hall, the school group, for which this extension is considered, nestles between an independent school for girls dating from 1850 and a town hall-school building for boys from the 1950s.
Information about the extension project of the primary school in Riaz. In 2017 the commune of Riaz organized a competition to renovate and extend its primary school dating from the 1960s. The extension gives the school a better presence in the public space, it reinforces the built ensemble while linking the different levels of the courtyards. A simple and reassuring presence emerges from the “house” symbolism expressed by the project.
With the rededication of the former school building as the August Everding Cultural Centre, the former schoolyard at the back became a public space.
The existing building could be described as a standard terraced house, but there is one important advantage: a large and beautiful garden in the middle of the city block. Unfortunately, the relation between this garden and the living areas was blocked by a series of storages and small spaces situated on different floor levels and characterized by a limited ceiling height.
Background. In 2020, during the global Covid-19 pandemic, many families re-evaluated their way of living. The owners of this house maintained a “nomadic” lifestyle so their stays in Ecuador were short and sporadic. The space they inhabited during these visits was a small 65m2 suite, in which they had a room with a full bathroom and a multifunctional space that included a “bedroom” for their two daughters. After the lockdown, the family decided that their stays should be longer and that space should better allow them to perform their daily activities.
This challenging small extension transforms an existing family house into a more flexible home, without losing the connection with the architecture of its uniform neighbourhood.
A two-story single-detached house settles in a village near Suvarnabhumi Airport, with its size of 150 square meters, located in only two-third part of 256 square meters plot. It was too small for a family with five members; a couple with two kids and grandma. The rest one-third of the land was left over with no usage; thus, it is turned into another extension house.
Mustard building – the interior serenity. The second chapter of the rose-house begins with the city code. The rules allow us to construct a new addition to the existent building on the back of the plot facing Princesa Street.
Tasked with crafting versatile spaces suitable for relaxation, entertaining, and hosting intimate dining and arts evenings, DGN Studio have transformed a dark Victorian semi-detached terrace into a serene, brutalist-inspired home in East London.
