The Parallel House is a summer residence situated within a secluded natural area of a Greek Cycladic Island. The strong topographical changes of the surrounding landscape represent at the same time the conceptual source and guideline for the architectural idea.

Belgorod is an ordinary city in Eastern Russia with a population of over 350,000 people. It was almost fully rebuilt after World War II; however, its public spaces have not been modernized since Soviet times. The Vezelka River embankment was one such abandoned place. A year ago, it was completely undeveloped, and parts were completely isolated. However, it has changed radically through the “Future Cities” program.

The new unit stands out as an extension of the Avenue itself, establishing itself as a free territory to be appropriated by the general public. Among its structural characteristics, the concept is developed in the large accesses, in the various areas of coexistence – with internal squares and a terrace at the top – and even in the choice of materials, such as the use of non-reflective glass. The option for the material, which appears conjugated to zinc plates on the facade, reveals the various activities carried out inside the building. Architecture is only completed when activated by the movement of people, and for this relationship every structure was conceived with the actions that will be developed in the Unit, guided by the “Body-Art-Technology” trinomial.

Grosvenor Avenue / fourth_space

November 3, 2018 Pilar Caballero 0

Grosvenor Avenue by fourth_space began as a project in 2014 with the architect suggesting to an independent developer that they could deliver a design-led project that challenged the bog-standard approach to materials and finishes associated with small developments. Set on the infill site once occupied by poor quality two-storey semi-detached houses, the building was conceived as a sensitive re-working of the architecture found in the European townhouse typology, adapted to sit within a large Victorian Islington terrace.

Golf House / BAM! arquitectura

With the premise of a businessman whose main hobby is to play golf, this house was conceived as an exploration of a composition with volumes and its materials; heavy and light, closed and open, therefore creating a design with great simplicity and beauty in harmony with the landscape.

Nestled among the skyscrapers of “billionaire’s row” are the historic jewels of Midtown Manhattan’s rise into the sky, the fashionable towers built by companies like Goodrich and General Motors, in muscular iterations of gothic revival, Viennese Secessionism and Art Deco styles. Designed by Carèrre & Hastings for the Fisk Tire company in 1920, the Fisk building’s 26 floors taper back in a series of terraces. COOKFOX chose the 17th floor to explore the next generation of workplace, a studio designed to join three planted terraces in an expression of our mission to connect people to nature within the built environment.
