The existing bungalow is limited to one floor. Almost 1/4 of its volume is taken up by an indoor garage that is hardly used. Moreover, the house is particularly poorly insulated. The residents want a limited expansion of the existing volume, in order to be able to meet the current requirements of a single-family home. In addition, the energy performance of the home must be optimized.

Country House in Lugar da Lapa / ADAPTEYE

The property is located in the vicinity of the rural nucleus of the Fornelos in Lugar da Lapa in the county of Cinfães do Douro. It is located about 10 km south of the “Passadiços do Paiva”, which in 2017 and 2018 were recognized as the Best World Adventure Travel Attraction. The owner intended to recover and expand a residential house in order to install a rural tourism project in the country side, to respond to the lack of accommodation with these characteristics in the region and at the same time contribute to the development of the local economy in a sustainable way.

Extension of Oyamagaoka / Aki Hamada Architects

In this extension project, the existing part of the house was a 13-year-old type conformity approval house, built by Misawa Homes Co., Ltd. Located at a corner site in a suburban residential area in Tama Hills, the house had a hair salon on the ground floor. Regular customers of this private salon mainly consisted of local residents. The client decided to expand the building, putting future business expansion in perspective.

Our clients Bill and Kate had purchased a run down post-war brick semi-detached house in Bondi. As is typical of this period of housing the plan consisted of a series of poorly-lit consecutive rooms, ending in a lean-to extension that blocked the internal areas from views to an unkempt rear garden.
