Loft

Multiple space-saving solutions combined with a light and warm material palette define the spaciousness of this tiny Amsterdam loft by Studio Canisius and Eline Degenaar. The efficient layout and various visual tricks make the apartment feel bigger than the 50 m2 it actually is. With the use of 1:1 mockups, we investigated how small footprint living can still feel spacious.

The Eiffel building is unmistakably the icon of the Sphinx Quarter. Situated in the dynamic new district in the centre of Maastricht it’s at the heart of where small business, culture, and urban living meet. After the building had been vacant for over ten years, it has been redeveloped into a location for The Student Hotel, loft flats, office spaces, and a variety of public functions. From a closed industrial complex, ‘De Eiffel’ changed into the open and hospitable heart of the new Sphinx Quarter. Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau supervised the shell repair and coordinated the redevelopment of the building.

Loft RLO was designed as a pavilion that seeks to capture a life inherently connected to living outdoors. A single-story residence with generous proportions, with just one suite, one bathroom, and two half-baths, that values being and living together, blurring the lines that separate the outdoors from the indoors. The project explores the relationship between occupied space and voids, from the entrance pathway to the glass doors that open up completely and vanish into the walls. This creates a single large living space out of a dining room, kitchen, porch, and pool deck. 

The apartment Next to The Blue Church is a kind of weekend loft close to the historical center of Bratislava. In its original state, it was rather a larger and rigid “cell” with hidden potential and a beautiful view of the Art Nouveau monument called “The Blue Church”. We were not looking for a design or a careful and meticulous craft for this apartment, it was not important for us, because it would not give you that experience of well-being. For us, it was mainly about views, openings, atmospheres, location, the play of light and shadow.

Located in Toronto’s King West neighbourhood, SOCA was asked to redesign a two-level loft space for a young professional seeking to create two new bedrooms and an additional washroom from a previously open floor plan with no partition walls. The client sought greater functionality and flexibility to accommodate their evolving future needs while maintaining the spacious atmosphere of the open plan. The design revolves around a double-height space framed by north-west facing windows that fill the loft with natural light throughout the day.

This loft is built on an area of 100 m2 (4 are). It has a storage, 1 loft bedroom on the 1st floor, 1 bathroom, kitchen and living room on the ground floor, as well as a private pool and a garden. The main concept used in designing the loft is iron structures, rendering cement, and natural wood, gives a industrial touch balanced with warm features. For the expose structure, we using HEB iron beams and columns. All walls are made of polish cement with uneven texture.

Loft Chartier is a small well-located apartment. It is designed to host a young couple during weekends, so its main purporse is to be as practical as beautiful. The apartment itself has some qualities, like a corner window and a concrete slab. So, those were importante tools to compose the interior design. In order to contrast to the brutalist aspect of the apartament, we design a wood ceilling in the main entrance. So, this element also appear as a wall pannel which hides a door.

The Loft RCB, arises from the need of a young client who was looking for a new space to live. The land was the first starting point for the design of the house, a rectangular land measuring 11.00 by 20.00 meters with a front facing north. With limited space to work, it is proposed to create a first courtyard, to which the spaces on the ground floor and the second floor would be articulated, so that all the elements of our architectural program can enjoy this small green space, providing them with cross ventilation and natural light, with the help of a second backyard.
